What is E.S.C.?

What is E.S.C.?

The European Solidarity Corps (E.S.C.) is a Programme, implemented by the European Union. This opportunity gives you the chance to volunteer until 12 months in a foreign country. The C.E.S. fosters a real learning process.

What is the objective of E.S.C.?
The C.E.S. has the objective to develop solidarity and to promote tolerance between yourself and other young people, by strengthening the social cohesion in the European Union. In this context, solidarity between citizens of the European Union can be achieved through support for the participants with different forms of without profits and not paid activities, giving benefits to citizens from another country.
These activities are a whole set of non-formal tasks, to improve and gain personal, educational, professional competences and social integration.

What is the E.S.C. project?
The European Voluntary Service allows young people to travel and volunteering in a foreign country, to know other cultures, people, and learn a new language. E.S.C. promotes European solidarity and it is a learning process because young people can acquire new personal and professional competences and at the same time give a contribution with their work on local communities.
An E.S.C. project is made up of three phases:
- planning and preparation;
- implementation of the activities;
- evaluation (with a reflection about a possible follow-up).

What are the projects?
The projects are developed in different areas: Culture, Youth, Communication and Graphics, Sport, Social Service, Cultural Heritage, Arts, Civil Protection, Environment, Cooperation for Development and many more.

How long does a project last?
The duration of projects is between 2 weeks and 12 months:
- Short term: from 2 weeks until 2 months
- Long term: from 2 months until 12 months

Who can participate?
Young people between 18 and 30 years old in possess of legal residence in the sending organization's country can participate. The volunteers will be selected regardless of their origin or context. A volunteer can take part in only one E.S.C. project. Exception: the volunteers that will participate in one E.S.C. project which lasts less than 2 months can participate in more than one E.S.C. project, as long the total period of the projects does not exceed 12 months.

Who organizes E.S.C.?
E.S.C. volunteers have the right and obligation to participate in training and evaluation sessions. The responsibility for the organization of E.S.C. Training and Evaluation Cycle depends on the place where the events take place.
The E.S.C. project consists of three essential components:
- The Service, where you are received by an organization which is not from your residence country, and where you can develop your voluntary service for the local community;
- The Training, where all the parts involved in the project must ensure that you will participate in pre-departure training organise by Check-IN, on arrival training, mid-term training, and final evaluation of the project;
- Permanent assistance, where all the parts have to give personal support, related to the tasks, and also linguistic and administrative support during your participation in the project.

Which are the benefits?
